AI Diet Buddy ("we", "our", or "the App") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide
When you use AI Diet Buddy, you may provide the following information:
- Meal photos: Images you take or upload for AI nutritional analysis. Photos are processed in real time and are not stored on our servers after analysis is complete.
- Text and voice check-ins: Descriptions of meals you provide via text or voice input for AI analysis.
- Onboarding preferences: Diet goals, dietary restrictions, sensitivity information, and support style preferences you provide during onboarding. This data is stored locally on your device.
1.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Device information: Device model, operating system version, and app version for crash reporting and compatibility.
- Usage analytics: Anonymous usage patterns (screens visited, features used, session duration) collected via Firebase Analytics to improve the app experience.
- Advertising identifiers: IDFA (only with your explicit consent via Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt) for attribution analytics via AppsFlyer.
1.3 Information We Do NOT Collect
- We do not collect your name, email address, or contact information (unless you contact our support).
- We do not require account creation or login.
- We do not collect or store health data in Apple HealthKit.
- We do not collect location data.
- We do not collect payment information (the app is free).
2. How We Use Your Information
- AI meal analysis: Your meal photos and descriptions are sent to our secure backend server, which forwards them to Google's Gemini AI for nutritional analysis. Photos are processed in real time and discarded immediately after analysis. We do not retain, store, or use your meal images for any purpose beyond providing immediate analysis results.
- App improvement: Anonymous analytics data helps us understand which features are most useful and identify bugs.
- Attribution: With your consent, advertising identifiers help us measure the effectiveness of marketing campaigns. You can withdraw consent at any time in your device settings.
3. Data Storage and Security
All personal data (onboarding preferences, check-in history, challenge progress) is stored locally on your device using encrypted storage. This data is not transmitted to our servers.
When you perform a meal analysis, data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections to our Firebase Cloud Functions backend. The backend processes the request through Google's Gemini AI and returns results. No meal data is retained after the response is delivered.
4. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- Google Firebase (Cloud Functions, Analytics, Remote Config) — for backend processing, anonymous usage analytics, and app configuration. Firebase Privacy Policy

5. Amazon Affiliate Links
AI Diet Buddy is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. When the app detects food items in your meals, it may display links to related keto-friendly products on Amazon. These links contain our affiliate tag, and we may earn a small commission if you make a purchase. This does not affect the price you pay.
6. Children's Privacy
AI Diet Buddy is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at support@aidietbuddy.com.
7. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Delete your data: All app data is stored locally on your device. You can delete all data by uninstalling the app or using the "Reset Data" option in Settings.
- Opt out of tracking: You can withdraw ATT consent at any time in iOS Settings > Privacy > Tracking.
- Opt out of analytics: Contact us at support@aidietbuddy.com and we will disable analytics for your device.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
